My partner and I are looking to buy our first property together. I'm a UK national, self employed with 5 years of accounts, but my partner is from the Republic of Ireland, has only lived in the UK for a year and works for the merchant navy so is employed by an American company. Is it possible for us to get a joint mortgage that takes his salary into account when calculating how much we can borrow?
Ask the Specialist response:
Thank you for making contact with us.
The circumstances that you have presented are unusual compared to most people, however, are common for us to help. Capital Fortune have regularly assisted many clients in the merchant navy, as well as seafarers on contracts where they are not paid in GBP and are paid in foreign currencies.
Due to recent rule changes, a number of lenders have stopped lending to applicants paid in foreign currencies, however, we successfully regularly assist many applicants paid in a range of currencies - USD is one of the most popular.
If you just wish to obtain an indication on whether we are able to assist you, given your specific circumstances, I'd recommend speaking to one of our Advisers on 02077100400 or send us an enquiry online and one of our Advisers will call you back.
