Can I get a mortgage with 2 CCJ's on my credit file?

Hi i was wondering if you could give me some information.

I am looking to purchase my house i am living in now (have lived here 11yrs) and would need a mortgage for approx 80000.

I do have 2 CCJ's which were added on to my credit file recently however one of those is a debt which is 7yrs old....would I still be able to get a mortgage....also would it be easier if i made a joint application with my partner ?

Sarah

Ask the Specialist response:

Sarah - thanks for sending in the query.

It is difficult to give you an immediate yes or no answer with the information provided. The answer really lies in a number of factors which all need to be taken into account such as:

  1. The amount of the County Court Judgements and when they were registered?
  2. Have they been cleared or do they remain outstanding?
  3. What the background was to the CCJ's - for instance was it an error, was it the provider's fault or your fault etc?
  4. Have you recovered financially from whatever caused the CCJ's in the first place?

I don't think it would help adding your partner onto the mortgage application as the lender would want both mortgage applicants to meet their rules and policy on previous adverse credit.

Having said that we have helped clients with CCJ's in the past and we maybe able to assist yourself.

For a quick response, I'd recommend speaking to one of our Advisers on 0207 710 0400 and outlining your situation. They will then be able to let you know whether we are likely to be able to assist. Alternatively you can send us an enquiry online and one of our Advisers will call you back.
